Poly gel Nails: Unboxing and First Impression
"Poly gel? That's the stuff dentists use to take moulds of your teeth." Were the first words out of my moms mouth when I told her I ordered a new poly gel nail kit.
A little over a year ago, all over instagram, I would see this product advertised, it was sponsored and came up almost every other post (thank you targeted ads). I never dismissed it and was always curious what the product would be like. I'd watch the little instructional/promotional video and would always think, this product looks too easy to use and too good to be true.
Fast forward to our ever changing times, in the year 2020, where the simulation is broken and everything is cake. With the uncertainty of nail salons being open and operating, a lot of people were forced to DIY their own nails or find alternatives. Cue poly gel nails! Not only was I looking for an alternative to going out and getting my nails done, I genuinely do love doing them myself. I was also hunting for something that wasn't acrylic. I am unsure if poly gel is really any better for your nails than acrylics but, I was hunting for something different. (A quick google search did in fact confirm poly gel IS better for your nails than acrylic--in summary poly gel is lighter and more breathable).
Now before I run the risk of sounding like a cooking blog and writing 35 paragraphs before getting to the content you came here for, lets jump in:
Prior to purchasing this particular poly gel nail kit I did NO research so, to provide you with complete transparency, I'm not sure if this is a top of the line product, a knock-off brand or your typical run-of-the-mill poly gel kit. I guess that's what my job here today is, to tell you whether or not this particular kit is worth it and if poly gel nails really are as easy to do as the internet leads us to believe.
Now for the second time, ~*lets jump in*~

Pictured above is the actual polygel itself. This is whats going to actually be your "fingernail." The colour you choose will then be the colour of the nail. This will make more sense when I demonstrate how this product actually works! Hang tight. For now, understand these little tubes are the actual polygel.

I actually was surprised that this kit included nail clippers? Bonus! Thank you! I am not sure who is purchasing a nail kit who wouldn't already own some but, no complaints here! I was also surprised to see not one but TWO nail files! Can never have too many nail files--especially when you're working with fake nails, I find acrylics rip right through shitty nail files and I am always replacing them. This kit included a cuticle cutter thingy (I'm not sure what they're called--cuticle tool?), a dual ended tool with a brush and a flat metal molding side. This kit also came with.... Tweezers? For lack of a better word? (I typed this sentence then realized it literally says "TWEEZERS" inside the packaging.) To be completely honest, I'm not sure what the purpose of the tweezers are yet but, thats to be determined, I guess. I feel like I said tweezers a lot. Tweezers.
