OCTOBER MOVIE MONTH: Terrifier
Don't say it, I know. I am behind on my posting about movies. Let's just dive right in.
This movie came out in 2016. IMDb gives this movie a 5.7/10. This is an American horror film. You can find this movie on Netflix!
Here's the trailer...
Oddly, this is the first movie this month I've watched that's actually Halloween themed. I thought about making these movies all Halloween themed but that might get redundant.
Just from watching the first minute of this video, I can tell it's going to be campy. Which isn't bad!! I love a good/bad campy horror film!!
Okay, fast forward to the end of the film.
I typically watch movies with subtitles and this one was no different. I watched this movie with subtitles but this is really the first "gory" movie I've seen this month so I haven't had the pleasure of the subtitles transcribing the noises of blood or, someone being sawed in half. My favourite subtitle is when it says "squelching". You're welcome.
Like I just mentioned above, this movie is the first gory one I've watched this month. This is truly a scary, gory, horror Halloween movie. It had all the campy elements of a good Halloween-horror; lots of blood, victims being idiots and people making poor decisions throughout the night. However, with any "typical" scary movie, there are always flaws. This one has a few plot flaws and some things that don't make sense... Such as, the people locked in this building, trying to escape the murderous clown, at one point, end up outside but nobody seems to flee the scene? They stay and try to get back into the building? I'm not sure. There's a scene where the victim is clearly in the parking lot (outside) but you see her banging on a locked door trying to get back in because the clown is also outside? I just don't know why she wouldn't have just tried to run away at this point? Same goes for the ending. SPOILER ALERT!!!!!: when the clown is brought to the hospital (after killing himself) he comes back to life and kills the coroner but... The clown kills him with one hand. He strangles the coroner with ONE HAND. The coroner doesn't fight back. He just dies with his two hands free. This makes no sense. I guess that's what you get, though. Movies like this typically have a few "wtf" moments. Similar to when one of the characters starts beating up the clown at one point but, for some reason, she doesn't kill him? She stabs him once and runs away while he's on the ground in pain. WHY WOULDN'T YOU KILL HIM? I'm afraid if I keep rolling my eyes they'll get stuck in the back of my head. I guess if you watch this movie, expect your typical "what are you doing?!" and, "no, don't go in there! you KNOW the killer is in there!!" moments.
Movie run through...
Opening scene you see an interviewer interviewing someone on an old television set.
In this scene its revealed that this disfigured woman is the sole surviver from these clown attacks a year ago.
The interviewer is empathetic in the interview but once the cameras turn off and she's in her dressing room, she's saying some not-so-nice things about the disfigured woman.
Disfigured woman kills interviewer and maniacally laughs and the scene fades to "1 year earlier..."
It's Halloween night and two friends (Tara and Dawn) are leaving a party.
Drunk friend offers to drive, other friend says no and suggests they sober up at a diner before driving home.
They head to the diner and meet a creepy clown on the way.
Tara is cautious but Dawn is a blonde, bubbly, extrovert who hollers at the clown and starts saying things like, "hey handsome!" and, "my friend wants your number!"
Clown disappears and the girls go to the diner.
Clown strolls into the diner after the girls show up and sits adjacent from Tara and Dawn.
The clown stares at Tara the entire time they're in the diner.
Dawn tries talking to the clown, takes some photos, keeps reassuring Tara that he's "harmless."
Clown goes into the bathroom, does some fucked up shit and the diner owner kicks him out.
The girls leave, wondering what the clown did in the bathroom.
Clown comes back and murders the two diner owners.
The night goes on and the clown keeps killing.
The friends head back to their car only to realize it has a flat tire and now they can't go anywhere.
Tara calls her sister for a ride as her and Dawn are now stranded.
Sister agrees and goes to where they are.
Tara really has to pee at one point while the girls are waiting for her sister.
Dawn jokingly suggests Tara go pee in the creepy building where "that creepy guy" just came out of.
Tara asks this man if she can use the bathroom, he says okay, she goes inside and gets locked in.
Dawn is alone in the car waiting for Tara when the radio announces there's a "murderous clown on the loose."
Dawn is all "omg no way, I have to text Tara."
While she's preoccupied texting, the passenger door opens, she doesn't look up but says, "you'll never guess what I just heard about the clown!" at this point she looks to the passenger seat and sees none other than.. You guessed it! The clown.
He kills her.
Now he's chasing Tara around trying to kill her while she's locked in this building.
Tara beats up the clown but doesn't kill him.
More chasing and killing. The clown essentially kills everyone in his path.
He catches Tara and kills her.
Tara's sister (Victoria) shows up and is looking for the two girls. They're nowhere to be found.
The clown spots Victoria and now she is running for her life.
She finds Dawn, dead.
She finds Tara, dead.
The clown finds Victoria and tries to kill her.
More chasing and lots of blood shed later and the police show up.
Turns out Victoria is still alive and they bring her to the hospital.
The clown kills himself and is taken to the coroner.
Upon arrival, the coroner opens the body bag, the clown sits up and strangles him to death (with one hand, as I mentioned above *insert eye rolling emoji*).
It is revealed at the end of the movie that the disfigured woman at the beginning is actually Victoria, the sole surviver of these clown murders.
This is one of those movies that felt impossible to give details without spoiling. This is also one of those movies where you knew everyone was going to end up dead. Like I said at the beginning, very campy and a little predictable. Some good jump-scares! Very gory, lots of blood, people being stabbed, shot, squished and sawed in half. IMDb gives this movie a 5.7/10 and I feel as though that's a pretty good rating. Plot flaws and a few "wtf" moments but all in all a pretty good Halloween horror film.
If you're looking for something campy, scary and gory, I would definitely recommend this movie!
What should I watch next? What's your favourite Halloween themed movie?
