OCTOBER MOVIE MONTH: Little Evil
Today's movie review is,
LITTLE EVIL
Synopsis: "A newly married man starts to believe that his 5-year-old stepson is the spawn of Satan."
This movie came out in 2017. IMDb gives this movie a 5.7/10. This is an American horror comedy film. You can find this movie on Netflix!
Here is the trailer...
I had passed this movie a number of times on Netflix the past few months, always thought about watching it but chose something else over it. Every time. However, because the last few movies I watched were really smart and more psychological, I wanted to watch something really scary or something funny! It was Friday night so funny won!
As I mentioned above, this is an "American" horror comedy. I don't know why they feel the need to include the word "American" in the genre but, that's another discussion for another day. Now! This movie is classified as a comedy and it actually was really funny! This was definitely more in the comedy realm but had good scary/spooky parts, too! It was a good blend. Something like, Tucker and Dale VS. Evil or Scary Movie 1 through 5 (granted, these are parodies but you get the gist), are more gruesome comedies, and I would even say "scarier" than Little Evil, it did have a good, cute story line! Despite not being very scary.
Here's a rundown of this film...
Gary marries this woman (Samantha) who has a son named Lucas.
Gary becomes Lucas' stepdad.
For some reason Gary hadn't met Lucas before they got married?
Gary is struggling to bond with Lucas and is getting worried because all of Sam's previous marriages didn't work out for that reason--they couldn't bond with her son.
Gary continues to attempt to bond with Lucas.
Weird shit starts happening and Gary finds Lucas' behaviour odd.
Weird stuff happens at school (or pre-school? He is only five.)
Gary talks to someone at work they recommend he join this support group for people who have trouble bonding with their step kids.
Gary goes and meets this small support group.
They all become friends and band together to help Gary either bond with his step son, or figure out what's wrong with him.
More weird shit happens with Lucas but when Gary confronts his wife, Sam, about this, she denies everything and tells Gary he shouldn't be blaming a child for odd behaviour.
They discover Lucas is in fact the antichrist.
Now people are trying to kill Lucas because a "message from God" told them to do so.
Now Gary is trying to protect Lucas.
The gates of Hell get opened and all Hell breaks loose.
Samantha's eyes have finally been opened and she see's for herself what Gary had been talking about.
Gary and his friend group are still working to fight off these people trying to kill Lucas, while simultaneously helping them bond.
Fight scene.
Resolution.
With this movie being kind of Hallmark-y (in a weird, satanic, dark way..) you can probably imagine or guess how it ends but, I still don't want to include that information. I don't want to spoil anything for anyone!
This movie gets a 5.7 out of 10 from IMDb and I feel like (I always do this) but I would round that 5.7 to a 6! This movie was funny enough with just the right amount of scary and spooky elements, that I'd say it at least deserves a 6/10. Cute, funny, scary, "dark comedy" for sure. Not gory, I don't recall seeing any blood? Or if there was, it was minimal. This overall was a really good movie! I would recommend if you want to watch something that's lighthearted, funny and a little spooky. Perfect combination of everything.
Have you seen this movie? It's relatively new! What should I watch next?
